WHAT is a gel polish manicure?
A gel polish manicure uses a hardening solution that looks and acts like nail polish, but technically it is gel. You must do a base coat, 2-3 coats of the color, then finish with a top coat. Each layer of polish must be cured in a UV or LED lamp. “Cured” basically just means dried. After the top coat has cured in the lamp a tacky (or inhibition layer) must be wiped off using rubbing alcohol. It’s all a bit scientific, but the main thing is this, a gel polish manicure gives you shiny, chip free wear for at least 2 weeks. Plus, when the top coat has finished curing, it is complete dry! You do have to wipe off the inhibition layer, but after that your gel manicure is dry and won’t dent or smudge.
WHat is a Hard gel manicure?
Hard gel is a nail enhancement like acrylic nails, except it cures in a UV light. It is NOT gel polish/shellac/soft gel/soak off gel. You can put gel polish over hard gel (and you should because it looks great). HArd gel is super shiny. You can extend the length of the nail. It can be sculpted and shaped just like acrylic. The only difference is that hard gel hardens through UV light rather than through evaporating solvents (like acrylic). On the molecular level, Hard Gel has a tightly woven structure with a low weight, which provides strength and durability, and prevents acetone from penetrating through. This is the reason why Hard Gels cannot be soaked off with acetone. A new application usually lasts about 3-4 weeks before it needs to be filled (lifting removed and a new layer is applied) or removed. Hard Gel can only be removed by filing it off.
